Erratum

A list of typographic errors (which originally appeared in Hedin et al., 2003, Ecology 84:2231–2255), and a pdf file of the corrected article.

 In the Perspectives paper by Lars O. Hedin, Peter M. Vitousek, and Pamela A. Matson (2003) entitled "Nutrient losses over four million years of tropical forest development," Ecology 84(9):2231–2255, a significant  error occurs on p. 2243 in the first line of the right-hand column: the loss of PO₄^3– was <0.5 µg P/L (not “<0.0005 µg P/L”). The authors have also reported several other relatively minor typographic errors in the published paper:

1) p. 2248, column 1 (Conclusions section): The first sentence should read: “Our findings show that nutrient losses from Hawaiian forests have been shaped by long-term interactions among geochemical, atmospheric, and biological processes over four million years of landscape development.”

2) p. 2233, caption of Fig. 1, line 3: “Kiauea” should be “Kilauea.”

3) p. 2234, caption of Table 1, line 2: “A superscript Q indicates that lysimeters installed" should be “indicates lysimeters installed.”

4) p. 2235, column 2, line 27: “persufate” should be “persulfate.”

5) p. 2236, Soil nutrients and transformations section, column 1, line 14: ”place” should be “placed.”

6) p. 2239, column 2, third line from bottom: “aersosols” should be “aerosols.”

7) p. 2242, Fig. 5 caption, line 5: “concentration” should be “concentrations.”

8) p. 2243, column 2, Soil N pools, ... section, line 5: “NO₃” should be “NO₃^–.”

9) p. 2246, Fig. 8 caption, line 8: The hyphen in NO₃-N is subscripted, but shouldn't be.  It should read “NO₃-N.”

10) p. 2247, Fig. 9 caption, line 8: “Standrd” should be “Standard.”

11) p. 2248, Fig. 10 caption, line 8: “ration” should be “ratio.”

These errors have been corrected in a revised pdf version of the published paper.
